Beatriz Lostalé

Beatriz Lostalé graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca before moving to the UK to study an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. She won the 2017 V&A Student Illustrator of the Year Award with her final project, Odyssey, a handmade screen-printed imagining of Homer’s epic. Influenced by early twentieth century painting and design, Beatriz uses a limited palette of bright, flat colours to describe forms by shape rather than by line, all the while retaining an affinity with southern European aesthetics and themes. While the use of digital media is important to her work, she enjoys exploring the possibilities of printmaking.
